Job Overview

An opportunity has arisen for two Clinical Associate in Psychology (CAP) roles within Stroke Psychology Services in Mid Essex and South East Essex.

The Mid Essex Stroke Psychology and South East Essex Community Stroke Psychology services were developed through collaboration with local commissioners, local providers and EPUT. A key aim of the Stroke services is to increase self-management and quality of life for individuals who experience stroke, in order that the demand on hospital and community services is reduced. The postholders will use CBT and ACT interventions, group work and neuropsychological methods. Alongside this is the opportunity to support a national project focusing on increasing accessibility, training and confidence in supporting the multidisciplinary teams with identifying and providing psychological care appropriate to the client’s needs.

If you would like to make a real difference, and work with adults who have experienced stroke, we would like to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

Clinical Associates in Psychology fill an identified skills gap between Assistant Psychologists and Qualified Psychologists. They are able to practice autonomously with appropriate support, working within their scope of practice, under the supervision of a registered Clinical Psychologist.

The post holder will work alongside qualified Psychologists, together with the wider network of MDT colleagues across inpatient rehabilitation and outpatient/community settings to provide a high quality Psychology service to service users. This will require assessment, formulation and intervention for adult clients who have experienced stroke, with some work with carers and family members alongside this or individually. Additionally, is the development and provision of MDT training for those working within the stroke pathway, with monitoring and evaluation of this. The posts will include individual and group work.

The successful applicants will join our professional and friendly team of Psychologists, Assistant Psychologists and Trainees working within Clinical Health Psychology Services. The two posts cover all of Mid Essex and the South East of Essex respectively.

CPD is both strongly supported and actively encouraged.
