The Quantity Surveyor is a full-time, office based/on-site role based in Chelmsford, supporting the commercial and financial aspects of painting and decorating projects. Day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Preparing and reviewing Bills of Quantities (BOQ)
- Assisting with cost planning and budgeting
- Monitoring project costs against estimates
- Producing regular cost reports
- Identifying variances and recommending corrective actions to maintain profitability and value for clients
- Collaborating with site teams
- Reviewing contracts and quotations
- Contributing to accurate tender submissions
This position requires strong attention to detail, clear communication with internal and external stakeholders, and a proactive approach to managing project finances.
Qualifications:
- Strong skills in BOQ preparation and quantity take-offs to support accurate estimating and tendering
- Experience within the painting and decorating industry is essential
- Skills in cost planning and cost management to develop budgets, track expenditures, and ensure projects remain financially viable
- Skills in cost control and cost reporting to monitor financial performance, produce periodic reports, and highlight risks or savings
- Good numerical and analytical skills, with proficiency in relevant surveying or estimating software and MS Office (especially Excel)

- Previous experience in construction, painting and decorating, or a related field, and a relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a similar discipline
