An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual to undertake the role of Geographical Facilities Assistant based at Colchester Police Station. The candidate will join an established team that provides daily support to the various departments on the North Local Policing Area (LPA). This interesting and varied role involves providing general facilities duties, which will include minor repairs to the property and furniture, maintenance and equipment inspections mainly at Essex Police Stations across the North of the county and at other sites of Essex as required.

The role requires strong communication skills and customer service as the candidate will be liaising with staff, officers of all ranks and outside service providers. A force vehicle will be available as the role will involve covering other Essex Police sites as directed by the line manager to discharge all duties. The logistics aspects involve lifting and moving bulky or heavy items with the use of aids where appropriate. Work is administered through a variety of channels including bespoke computer programmes and the use of office applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook will be part of daily duties.

Given the requirement to provide a core service to cover an operating period of between 0800 to 1700 Monday to Friday, the candidate needs to have a flexible approach towards their start and finish times as directed by local management. Essex Police offer agile working which allows some flexibility in terms of work arrangements. Due to the operational nature of this role, it will be predominantly office‑based within an office‑based team. Some travel may be required to other police sites to discharge duty.

What we are looking for:

  • Experience in practical maintenance and general repairs.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety and manual handling techniques in the workplace.
  • Evidence of excellent communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of IT and MS office applications.
  • Hold a full UK driving licence.
