An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual to join the Vehicle Recovery unit currently based at Boreham. As one of our Vehicle Recovery Administrators you will be joining a highly motivated team, dedicated to the identification, retention, protection of evidence and rightful release of vehicles to their lawful owners.

Responsibilities

  • This challenging role requires the successful candidate to undertake research and gather information to enable you to make decisions about the retention and release of vehicles.
  • You will be required to support the management of vehicles in our possession in line with force policy, the contract and legislation.
  • You will review the need to retain items, make decisions on when vehicles/items can be released, arranging for their return, ensuring vehicles and items retained in our possession are kept to a minimum.
  • You will work closely in support of the Vehicle Recovery Section Head who is responsible to the Head of Roads Policing for the delivery of the vehicle recovery scheme.
  • You will have confidence to provide guidance to officers of all positions thereby enhancing the service offered by the department.
  • You must show you have the ability to act confidently and appropriately in a wide range of circumstances, judging when to handle matters personally and when to seek further advice and support.
  • You must demonstrate the ability to act with tact, diplomacy and the capacity to remain calm in the face of provocation.
  • You will be able to demonstrate competent IT skills, being well versed in a wide range of software packages.
  • It is essential that the successful candidate has good all-round general education to at least GCSE A-C or equivalent experience in English and Maths.
  • Together with excellent communication skills - you must prove your ability to deal with calls from members of the public as well as other agencies and organisations, whilst also having the ability to build and develop working relationships.
  • Changes in processes are constant and therefore you will be open and comfortable in taking on new challenges and working practices.

Essex Police offer agile working which designates that certain roles can offer flexibility in terms of place of work, including some home working. The specific requirements of this role will be discussed during the interview stages with candidates. The extent of flexibility will be agreed through individual assessment with the line manager to assess operational requirements and individual’s suitability for home working. In the event that home working is agreed for the successful candidate, there will be a requirement to regularly attend the contractual workplace, as agreed with the line manager.
