This is an exciting, unique and challenging opportunity for Police Staff to join the Public and Personal Safety and Taser Training team within the busy and dynamic environment of Learning & Development at Essex Police College and training venues around the county.

As a Public and Personal Safety and Taser Training Instructor you will enhance the delivery of Public and Personal Safety Training (PPST) and Taser training through practical application, as part of a team delivering training to the wider force and in support of the 7 Force Taser training collaboration.

The successful candidate will already be a PPST or Taser Instructor and have a passion for officer/public safety and developing people, and working under pressure. They must also be able to maintain the high standards set by the College of Policing, at all times ensuring the delivery practice and instruction provided is in line with respective guidance.

You will be organised and confident, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. This will be combined with the ability to debrief course attendees, both verbally and in writing, to enable them to develop to their full potential.

As an Instructor, you will be expected to deliver a variation of classroom, practical and scenario-based lessons, and assessments delivering the national PPST and Taser packages. There is also some administration work involved which will include the reviewing of the Use of Force and operational Taser use, inputting data on to the chronicle system, development planning and course updating and other role related administration. It is important that the post holder is conversant with IT and all Microsoft office programs.

Essential

  • Trained and qualified PPST or Taser Instructor.
  • Currently trained in PPST/Job Related Fitness Test (JRFT) and Emergency FIrst Aid (EFA).
  • An incident whereby you have used the National Decision Model (NDM) in relation to use of force or de-escalation.
  • A time where you have used your supervision skills in developing a colleague.
  • An occasion where you have had to lead a team to achieve something relevant to the force plan.

Desirable

  • TEP (1 to 3) or equivalent or higher.
  • Public Order or National Firearms Instructor.
  • Taser Instructor.

You will be required to maintain annual competence in all co-requisites of the PPST and Taser Instructor role profiles, as set by the College of Policing and 7F Chief Taser Instructor (CTI).

Depending on your current vetting level and security clearances, you may be required to complete additional vetting information during the recruitment process.
