Role Overview
Assistant Performance Analyst will support the delivery of high‑quality performance analysis, reporting and insight to inform decision‑making across Essex Police. The role is an entry‑level development position designed to build capability in data analysis, reporting and modern analytical tools.
Key Responsibilities
- Has the aptitude to learn analytical tools and produce standardised reports and charts.
- Works on projects with limited scope under guidance of Force/Senior Performance Analysts, replicating existing analysis and data techniques, progressing to greater independence where appropriate.
- Develops an understanding of the wider analytics context, tools and techniques.
- Is responsible for the accuracy and quality of data (and analysis).
- Supports the development and maintenance of dashboards and reporting products, including developing capability in tools such as Power BI.
Qualifications and Experience
You will need to evidence experience in a data‑driven working environment (minimum one year) or demonstrate equivalent transferable skills through education or practical application. You must demonstrate a working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and be able to evidence an ability to clean and manipulate data. You must also be able to evidence self‑management of your workload and priorities, as well as your ability to work under pressure to meet urgent deadlines.
Essential Criteria
- Intermediate knowledge level of Excel – working knowledge of Excel functionality and an ability to perform data preparation and cleansing.
- Communicating analysis and insight – able to extract key findings and communicate them using appropriate media, tailoring to end‑user requirements.
- Verification and validation of data and analysis – understand basic data issues, conduct checks to ensure data (and analysis) are accurate, and understand context of data.
Desirable Criteria
- Undertaking analysis and providing insight – understanding how to work with colleagues to apply core techniques and present clear insights that colleagues can use.
- Experience of using Business Intelligence software – experience with tools such as Power BI or similar platforms.
Working Location
You will work predominantly (60 % or more) at Essex Police Headquarters in Chelmsford. The Headquarters is 1.2 miles from Chelmsford Railway Station. Light bus routes are available, and Chelmsford Town Centre is less than one mile walk. Remaining time can be worked at home or at other police site locations.
