Role Overview
Part‑time Kennel Assistant support the busy operational kennel block and manage the welfare and wellbeing of Police dogs.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain cleanliness of the kennel block, runs and ancillary buildings to the highest standards of hygiene and dog welfare.
- Monitor health checks for all dogs, notify staff of any concerns promptly and transport dogs to veterinarians if required.
- Communicate with lay visitors and other parties regarding the welfare of Police dogs.
- Assist in coordinating the re‑homing and adoption of police dogs, assessing potential dogs for best outcomes.
- Support the puppy programme, ensuring the welfare needs of mothers and their litters are met.
- Demonstrate sound administrative skills, including ordering and collecting food and supplies to achieve best value for money.
- Hold a full driving licence to transport dogs and collect supplies, and undertake the force driver’s safety assessment prior to driving duties.
Qualifications & Skills
- Previous experience caring for animals, with a proven track record of maintaining high standards of cleanliness and animal hygiene.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to engage with visitors and colleagues.
- Capacity to work independently and under minimal supervision, displaying a proactive and responsible attitude.
- Evidence of teamwork, cooperativeness, and positive working relationships with colleagues.
- Valid full driving licence and willingness to complete a safety assessment for vehicle operation.
