An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual to undertake the full-time role of Building Surveyor based at Kent Police Headquarters, Maidstone. We want to strengthen the Kent Police estate services department with an experienced and highly professional Building Surveyor. Reporting to the Construction Manager, you will co-ordinate all administrative and technical functions and in doing so you will place the internal partners at the heart of the services in what you do. Excellent stakeholder management and being communicative with internal and external partners will be essential.
The post holder will be a qualified or in the final stages of becoming a Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS Building Surveyor), and/or Member of the Chartered Institute of Chartered Surveyors MRICS Building Surveyor and/or Member of the Chartered Institute of Building (MCIOB) qualified or equivalent body.
Significant previous practical experience in a construction environment, working in a design & technical capacity at the level of self-managing substantial projects from inception through to completion is essential, ideally in a large organisation. The post holder must have good IT skills and be fully conversant and experienced in all types of 2D building design & technical drawings using computer aided drafting packages, preferably AutoCAD and Revit.
Applying the above experience and qualification requirements, the post holder must be capable of managing a number of building projects from inception to completion including producing feasibility studies, preliminary design proposals, estimated costs, arranging and organising structural and M&E services surveys, carrying out site measured surveys and producing detail design in accordance with all statutory regulations. They will be able to undertake planning negotiations and applications and undertake negotiations and applications for Building Control approval, incorporating all Construction Design Management requirements. Experience in identifying innovative solutions to problems is a requirement.
They will possess the ability to understand, interpret and disseminate technical issues regarding space management and utilisation of buildings. The post holder must have excellent communication, problem solving, presentation and interpersonal skills and experience of project management, and strong negotiating skills with the ability to broker effective outcomes. Also, an ability to evidence a track record of successfully managing supplier relationships.
The post holder will be required to travel within and, sometimes, outside Kent. Flexible working hours may be required to meet the needs of the business.
Kent Police offer incremental increases within this salary band, therefore the salary for this position will rise to a maximum of £54,597.00.
