The Role

As a Traffic Management Lead Operative, you will play a key role in delivering safe and efficient work across the network—leading a team to install, maintain, and remove temporary traffic management in a fast‑paced, hands‑on environment.

Responsibilities

  • Work as part of the highway maintenance operational team.
  • Manage and direct a small traffic management team.
  • Carry out and take responsibility for installing, maintaining, and removing temporary traffic management such as deploying cones, signs, frames, sandbags, and other equipment on low‑speed roads.
  • Install, maintain, and remove temporary traffic signals including two‑way traffic control up to multi‑phase traffic control, ensuring the units are installed correctly and batteries are fully charged.
  • Collect traffic management from sites once projects have been completed.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience delivering highway maintenance traffic management on site.
  • A current, valid driving licence is essential; LGV class 2 desirable.
  • Ability to carry out basic safety, quality and environmental audits and risk assessments.
  • Ability to take responsibility for traffic management – 12 A/B Traffic Management essential with the relevant NHSS 12 training.
  • Good understanding of health and safety and its impact on the workplace.
