We’re seeking a skilled Structural Engineer to lead the analysis and design of bridges and retaining walls in reinforced concrete, masonry, and steel. Reporting to the Team Leader, you will provide technical expertise, mentor junior staff, and uphold high design standards. You will play a key role in delivering structural refurbishment, assessment, and replacement projects—drawing on your initiative and strong knowledge of design codes, DMRB, MCHW, and CDM regulations.
The Role
- Support Health & Safety, Environmental, and Quality Management Systems, as well as CDM regulations, by positively implementing Essex Highways policies and procedures.
- Prepare plans and programmes for highway structures works and services.
- Carry out structural analysis and calculations, both manually and using software such as LUSAS.
- Provide technical advice and expertise based on engineering knowledge and experience.
- Offer timely and accurate guidance to County Councillors, District Members, Parish Councils, and the public on structures-related matters.
About You
- Strong design expertise using Eurocodes, DMRB, and modern structural standards.
- Working knowledge of contract specification preparation and use of MCHW.
- In-depth understanding and application of highway legislation, structural design procedures, standards, and best practices.
- Experience in budget governance, financial management, and cost control.
- Sound knowledge of Health & Safety legislation, including the Construction (Design & Management) Regulations (CDM).
