Ringway Jacobs is looking for an experienced and motivated HGV Operative to join our Cheshire East highways maintenance team. Working across one of the largest and most diverse local highway networks in the region, you'll play a vital role in keeping roads, footways, drainage systems and associated infrastructure safe and operational for local communities.
The Role
As an HGV Operative, you'll work as part of a skilled operational team delivering planned and reactive highway maintenance activities throughout Cheshire East.
Key responsibilities include:
- Driving and operating HGV vehicles (Class 2 minimum)
- Carrying out highway maintenance works on carriageways, footways and drainage assets
- Assisting with road repairs, reinstatements and minor construction activities
- Setting up and maintaining temporary traffic management arrangements
- Completing daily work records and associated documentation
- Following work instructions, risk assessments and safe systems of work
- Reporting hazards, defects and safety concerns
- Ensuring waste materials are handled and disposed of appropriately
- Supporting emergency response activities and winter maintenance operations, including gritting, on a rota basis
- Maintaining high standards of workmanship, safety and customer service at all times
We're looking for someone who enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in delivering quality work and has a strong commitment to safety.
You will ideally have:
- A valid UK driving licence with HGV (Class 2) entitlement as a minimum
- Previous experience in highways maintenance, construction, civil engineering or a similar operational environment
- Experience operating HGV vehicles within a workforce or infrastructure setting
- Good knowledge of health, safety and environmental practices
- Experience working safely with minimal supervision
- The ability to read and follow risk assessments and work instructions
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- A positive and flexible approach to work, including participation in out-of-hours and winter maintenance rotas
Desirable qualifications and experience:
- NRSWA (New Roads and Street Works Act) accreditation
- NHSS Sector Scheme qualifications
- 12A/12B Traffic Management certification
- Winter maintenance experience
- First Aid or other relevant highways-related qualifications
