We're looking for a Traffic Management Lead Operative to join our highway maintenance team at Ringway Jacobs.

In this hands-on position, you'll lead a small traffic management crew, ensuring the safe installation, maintenance, and removal of temporary traffic management equipment that enables essential highway works to be delivered safely and efficiently.

Working on the road network every day, you'll play a key role in keeping both road users and colleagues safe while delivering excellent service for our clients

The Role

As a Traffic Management Lead Operative, you will

  • Lead and direct a small traffic management team on site.
  • Install, maintain, and remove temporary traffic management equipment, including signs, cones, frames, and sandbags.
  • Set up, maintain, and remove temporary traffic signal systems, from two-way traffic control through to multi-phase systems.
  • Ensure all traffic management equipment is correctly installed, operational, and compliant with industry standards.
  • Carry out equipment checks and complete associated checklists before deployment.
  • Collect and recover traffic management equipment from completed works sites.
  • Maintain daily records and operational documentation accurately.
  • Promote and maintain safe working practices at all times.
  • Report health, safety, environmental concerns, near misses, and incidents promptly.
  • Support the successful delivery of highway maintenance activities across the network.

To be successful in this role, you\'ll bring

  • Previous experience delivering traffic management within a highways maintenance environment.
  • NHSS Sector Scheme 12A/B Traffic Management qualification and relevant training.
  • A full UK driving licence (LGV Class 2 licence would be advantageous).
  • A strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental requirements.
  • The ability to undertake basic audits, inspections, and risk assessments.
  • Experience leading or supervising teams and providing guidance to colleagues.
  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to engage with clients, stakeholders, and members of the public.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and taking ownership of your work.
  • The ability to work safely and effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Basic IT skills and confidence using handheld devices such as tablets or smartphones would be beneficial.
