Cheshire East Highways is seeking a motivated Apprentice Highways Operative to join the maintenance team based at Brunswick Wharf depot in Congleton. This two-year apprenticeship provides hands-on experience in a real working environment, building a foundation for a long-term career in the highways industry. On successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will progress into a Highways Maintenance Operative role with opportunities for further development within Ringway Jacobs.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the repair and maintenance of carriageways and footways, ensuring all work is accurately recorded using hand-held devices.
  • Understand and follow health and safety procedures to ensure your safety and the safety of others.
  • Learn how to operate equipment and tools safely.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure works are completed on time and to standard.
  • Undertake highways-specific training courses as appropriate to ensure understanding and compliance.

Qualifications

  • Formal qualifications are not required to enroll onto the apprenticeship; however you must achieve Level 1 in Maths and English before the end point assessment and take the test for Level 2, or provide a certificate of equivalent prior achievement (e.g., GCSEs).
  • Basic understanding of health and safety requirements.
  • Regular travel to college.
