Essex Highways (EH) is responsible for managing and maintaining one of the largest highway networks in the country. EH is a delivery partnership between Essex County Council (ECC) and Ringway Jacobs. In this role you will work alongside our contractual partner to deliver highways services and assist with the investigation and monitoring of streetworks, supporting and assisting with the co-ordination of a range of resources, and maximising opportunities to deliver our network management duty and safety for the travelling public.
The Role
- Assist the Senior Permit Officer and other Senior Officers to ensure delivery of the Essex Highways and Essex Permit Scheme objectives, as defined in agreed service plans, in accordance with all council and Essex Highways standards and policies.
- Assess and process Streetworks permits within requisite timescales and in accordance with good practice and legislation ensuring that the appropriate conditions are applied as necessary.
- Take ownership of your own workload whilst assisting with the team’s workload as capacity allows.
- Ensure all applications are compliant and in accordance with the relevant legislation/code of practice/guidance documents.
- Review every application on a case‑by‑case basis ensuring that all relevant checks (21 point checklist or other checklist or requirement provided by management to assess permits) is used and ensure all relevant conditions, time restraints & inspections are applied to each job.
- Have a working knowledge of all Streetworks processes & assist as part of the wider Streetworks function support continuous improvement of the Streetworks Team, demonstrated through innovations in service delivery, efficiencies and use of technology.
About You
- GCSE grades A-C/9-4 in Maths and English (Essential)
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft applications including Excel & Outlook (Essential)
- Working knowledge of Streetworks permits and closure processes (Desirable)
