Overview

We are looking for a dedicated and customer-focused individual to join our team, supporting the delivery of high-quality maintenance across the Essex highway network. Reporting to the Supervisor, you’ll play a key role in helping to provide a first-class service, ensuring all maintenance activities align with the strategies and policies of Essex Highways and the County Council.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as you'll be expected to uphold high standards within the team and engage with the public in a courteous and professional manner. You’ll help ensure that customers are well-informed and confident in the services and standards we provide.

Responsibilities

  • Pothole repair and carriageway defect reinstatements.
  • Carriageway and footway patching and construction.
  • Drainage works, including laying pipes, resetting ironwork and gully / access chamber construction.
  • Kerbing works.
  • Installation of road signs and other small civil works.

Qualifications

  • A current, valid driving licence is essential, with LGV Class 2 entitlement highly desirable.
  • New Roads and Streetworks or NHSS 12 training and qualifications would be highly beneficial.
  • Experience in the use of handheld technology (PDAs, Smartphones, etc) would be advantageous but not essential; local knowledge of the county would be beneficial.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with customers both internally and externally; experience of working in the public eye or other customer‑facing roles would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of highways maintenance.
