About The Role

Permanent, Full Time. £25,959 per annum. Location: Witham. Working Style: Fixed‑base worker. Working Pattern Flexible to cover ACL Maldon, Witham or Chelmsford as required.

  • ACL Maldon – Monday 08:00 – 16:30
  • ACL Witham – Tuesday 2pm – 10pm
  • ACL Witham – Wednesday 11:15 – 19:15
  • ACL Witham – Thursday 09:00 – 17:00
  • ACL Witham – Friday 09:30 – 16:30

Outside of term time you will work day time hours.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the security of and access to the site, lock and unlock buildings, act as key‑holder in emergencies, respond to calls outside normal working hours, set and turn off alarms, and check them regularly.
  • Undertake caretaking and cleaning to ensure efficient and effective service for staff, learners, and customers, meeting cleaning standards as specified.
  • Set up rooms and supply teaching aids in accordance with tutor and visitor booking information.
  • Participate in and help organise periodic emergency evacuations in line with Health & Safety codes of practice.
  • Prevent unauthorised access to the site and unauthorised parking of vehicles, following relevant policies and codes of practice.
  • Welcome members of the public, colleagues, and contractors onto the site.
  • Maintain an inventory of the centre’s equipment, updating and reviewing annually; test and check functioning of electrical equipment.
  • Undertake Health & Safety risk assessments for external premises, ensure policies and procedures are adhered to, and monitor systems and equipment compliance.
  • Monitor contractors and personnel working on the site, ensuring work complies with specification and health and safety procedures.
  • Maintain grounds, including mowing and clearing weeds, keeping hard areas and paths litter‑free, ensuring drains and gullies are clean and free flowing, and clearing snow paths to provide access in all weathers.

Essential Requirements

  • Educated to RQF level 2 (GCSE) or equivalent through relevant work experience.
  • Enthusiastic about learning and developing your skills on the job, with opportunities for growth and training.
  • A hands‑on approach to addressing challenges and finding practical solutions.
  • Previous experience in cleaning, caretaking, or maintenance tasks.
  • Familiarity with Health & Safety regulations, including manual handling procedures, ensuring safety for yourself and others.
  • Comfortable using basic IT tools for email, Teams, and general admin tasks.
  • Friendly and approachable, able to communicate effectively and provide a warm welcome to all visitors on‑site.

Key Conditions

The role requires mobility throughout an operational area. Therefore, the post holder must have a driving licence and access to a vehicle, or meet the mobility requirements of the role through other means.
