Grade 7, SCP 27-31 (£38,220 - £41,771). Location: Castle Point Offices, Benfleet / Hybrid Working. Permanent, Full Time (37 hours per week).

The Role

We are looking for an Information Governance Officer to provide specialist advice and support across the Council on data protection and information management. You will work closely with services across the organisation, supporting them to meet statutory obligations and improve how information is managed and protected.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and record data breaches, subject access requests (SARs), and other information requests
  • Act as a key contact point for the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) on data protection matters
  • Support the Data Protection Officer and contribute to the Information Governance Forum
  • Provide professional advice on data protection, GDPR and Freedom of Information legislation
  • Ensure compliance with the Transparency Agenda and publication scheme requirements
  • Support the development of policies, guidance and best practice across the Council
  • Lead or support the management of records and information systems, promoting a consistent corporate approach
  • Work with services to improve compliance, drive engagement and support delivery of governance initiatives
  • Maintain and support the Council’s Information Asset Register

About You

  • Has experience within information governance, data protection or a related field
  • Has a good understanding of GDPR, Freedom of Information and relevant legislation
  • Can apply analytical thinking to interpret legislation and apply it in a practical context
  • Has experience working with policies, procedures and statutory processes
  • Is able to work to strict deadlines and manage competing priorities effectively
  • Has strong communication skills and can build relationships across services
  • Is proactive, organised and committed to continuous improvement
