Essex County Council (ECC) is supporting Castle Point Borough Council to recruit an Environmental Officer on a part‑time, temporary basis. The role is fully on‑site.

Required to work two days per week, undertaking routine inspections such as Safety Culture inspections and ensuring Council‑owned land and facilities are safe and high‑quality.

Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for day‑to‑day operation of Council‑owned parks, open spaces, recreational facilities, cemeteries and car parks.
  • Open and close facilities as required and perform general horticultural duties and minor repairs.
  • Conduct programmed inspection and equipment audits, address defects per departmental procedures, and assist in preparation of budget bids for maintenance and development.
  • Respond to emergency call‑outs inside and outside normal hours, initiating necessary actions to protect facilities and ensure health and safety of users.
  • Perform regular patrols of parks, open spaces, woodlands, car parks, etc. to ensure health and safety, reduce anti‑social behaviour, and take enforcement action when needed.
  • Liaise with Essex Police and other emergency services when appropriate.

Experience:

  • Able to work independently.
  • Pro‑active mindset.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Experience in operating and maintaining open spaces and associated facilities, including programmed inspections and equipment audits.
  • Experience working with community groups.
  • Knowledge of and experience in horticultural activities.
  • Knowledge of and experience in enforcing relevant legislation.
