Senior Social Worker - Learning Disability & Autism

This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate and experienced Social Worker to join an innovative and award‑winning Learning Disability and Autism Team covering West Essex. The team works to improve outcomes for people with learning disabilities and/or autism through advocacy, person‑centred practice, multi‑disciplinary collaboration and community link‑building.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert guidance and mentorship to newly qualified and experienced colleagues.
  • Assess and support a diverse, complex caseload, including comprehensive assessments and person‑centred care plans.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory Care Act requirements, legislation, and organisational standards.
  • Manage caseloads to uphold the highest standards of professional practice.
  • Collaborate with council, partners and other agencies to design high‑quality solutions that promote independence.
  • Represent adult social care in multi‑agency meetings and chair meetings with clients, families, carers and professionals.

Qualifications

  • Qualified Social Worker with current Social Work England registration.
  • AMHP, BIA or Practice Educator qualified.
  • Proactive and passionate with proven experience in complex cases and supporting staff.
  • Ability to mentor and provide guidance in complex situations.
  • Significant adult social care experience, including understanding of current legislation, regulations and guidance.
  • Experience supporting adults with learning disability and autism.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development and capability in practice.
  • Understanding of the financial implications of commissioned care packages.
  • Experience chairing multi‑agency meetings and assessing risk.
  • Desire to develop into a management role.
  • Mobile throughout an operational area – must hold a valid driving licence, have a vehicle or meet mobility requirements.
