About The Role
School Crossing Patrol Officer – Quilters School (Permanent, Term Time) £13.00 per hour Location: Billericay Working Style: Operational field-based worker
Come and support your local community by joining Essex County Council’s School Crossing Patrol Team as a School Crossing Patrol Officer at Quilters School, Laindon Road, Billericay CM12 9LD. Support schools once in the morning and once in the afternoon, ensuring the safety of all pedestrians crossing the road to and from school and its surrounding locations.
We are looking for a punctual and reliable individual, who is approachable and enjoys engaging with the public. This position is for 6 hours 40 minutes per week approximately, with a holiday pay element included. You will need to be available to work during the 39 weeks of the academic year, between 08:00–09:00 in the morning and 14:45–15:45 in the afternoon approximately, depending on individual site requirements. Uniform, equipment and training will be provided.
Responsibilities
- To have regard for the needs of people with disabilities, especially mobility‑impaired people wishing to use the crossing point.
- Maintain regular contact with the schools attended by children using the crossing.
- Regularly assess the risks associated with operating at the crossing site in order to identify any problems.
- Report problems and defects to supervisor.
- Assist in the preparation of reports on accidents and failure to stop incidents and other incidents occurring at the crossing site.
- Ensure that all uniform and equipment provided is maintained in good condition and replacements requested when needed.
- Give clear signals to drivers when stopping traffic and ensuring that the traffic remains at rest until the road at the crossing point is clear of pedestrians.
Note that the job role requires you to be mobile throughout an operational area. Therefore, the post holder will need to have a driving licence and access to a vehicle, or the ability to meet the mobility requirements of the role through other means. As part of employment with Essex County Council (ECC) should your role require a DBS check you will be required to register with the DBS update service. The DBS update service ensures all registered DBS certificates are kept up to date and allows authorised parties to view the status of your certificate. This is an annual subscription, and you will be responsible for ensuring this is maintained.
