About the role

Essex County Council is looking for a School Crossing Patrol Officer at Ivy Chimneys Primary School. The role involves supporting the school once in the morning and once in the afternoon, ensuring the safety of pedestrians crossing the road. You will be expected to be punctual, reliable, approachable, and enjoy engaging with the public.

Working details

7.5 hours per week (approximately) over the 39 weeks of the academic year, typically 45 minutes between 08:00‑09:00 in the morning and 45 minutes between 14:45‑15:45 in the afternoon. Uniform, equipment and training will be provided. Holiday pay element included.

Compensation

£13.00 per hour.

Responsibilities:

  • Consider the needs of people with disabilities, especially mobility‑impaired people, when using the crossing point.
  • Maintain regular contact with the schools attended by children using the crossing.
  • Regularly assess the risks associated with operating at the crossing site and report problems or defects to the supervisor.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports on incidents, including accidents and failures to stop incidents occurring at the crossing site.
  • Ensure that all uniform and equipment provided is maintained in good condition, and replacements are requested when needed.
  • Give clear signals to drivers when stopping traffic and ensure that the traffic remains at rest until the road at the crossing point is clear of pedestrians.
