Technical Assistant – Brentwood & Rochford District Council
Full‑time, temporary, 37 hours per week for a 6‑month contract at £23.00 per hour (PAYE). Closing date: Friday 21st November 2025.
About the Role
As a Technical Assistant working within the Environments Team, you will support the management team with the technical planning and coordination of key services—making sure resources are used efficiently and residents and commercial customers receive an excellent standard of service.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitoring and enhancing the efficiency of grounds maintenance, waste and street cleaning services
- Undertaking research on best practice and innovation and presenting findings to the management team in an accessible format
- Analyzing services data to identify opportunities for improvement
- Responding to service‑related enquiries and complaints with professionalism and care
- Supporting the development of technical specifications for procurement of services and goods
- Supporting budget management and monitoring financial performance
- Liaising with contractors, internal departments and external stakeholders
- Supporting staff training and development coordination
- Maintaining clear communication with the wider team and senior managers
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of six GCSEs, grade C and above, including English and Maths
- Experience delivering frontline services or managing service contracts
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office tools
- Strong customer service and stakeholder management experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Key Projects
- Review and develop a draft environmental enforcement policy
- Procure contractors to deliver environmental enforcement
- Obtain quotes, arrange training for key staff and develop an annual programme
- Review staffing and overtime costs
- Develop a suite of H&S messages and communications for the operational team
- Support implementation of the litter bin (binfrastructure) plan and maintain the database
- Oversee introduction of the Waste Storage Collection and Management Guide for New Developments
- Lead analysis of the Ingatestone wheeled bin trial, including tonnage data and resident feedback
- Support roll‑out of food waste and other recycling streams to flat‑topped properties
- Assist with day‑to‑day tasks on range of projects for the Environment Board
