Overview

As Managing Quantity Surveyor, you will support a large housing construction programme within the Housing Operations team. You will work on pre-contract cost planning, procurement, and contract administration to keep projects on time and within budget. On-site involvement four days a week positions you to drive cost controls, risk management, and robust financial reporting. You will engage with stakeholders to secure funding and ensure compliance through the project lifecycle. This role offers impact across refurbishment, maintenance, and compliance initiatives within a busy public sector setting.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare early cost estimates and cost plans during pre-contract
  • Monitor design development and update cost plans at key design stages
  • Assist with procurement strategy and prepare tender documents
  • Manage tender process including interviews, assessment, and governance approvals
  • Provide advice on contractual provisions and collateral warranties/performance bonds
  • Lead contract administration across a portfolio of works and manage commercial staff
  • Provide technical and contractual guidance to prevent disputes and handle issues
  • Maintain monthly financial reporting and present financial updates to stakeholders
  • Set Practical Completion requirements and manage close-out documentation and final accounts
  • Attend internal/external stakeholder meetings and record minutes

Key requirements

  • Chartered with RICS or equivalent professional qualification
  • Significant experience as Employers Agent/Contract Administrator and QS
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and manage contract documents
  • Leadership experience overseeing a team and senior reporting functions
  • Strong knowledge of JCT Contracts
