About the Role

- Technical Support Officer (Building Control) – Maldon District Council
Hybrid working – minimum 2 days a week in the office.
Role Purpose
As a Technical Support Officer, you are the first point of contact for Building Control enquiries.
You process Building Regulation applications, maintain accurate records, support Building Control Surveyors, liaise with customers, and ensure applications are managed efficiently and in accordance with legislation.
- Accountabilities – Service Delivery
- Assist the efficient, effective and consistent processing and resolution of Building Control queries, identifying customer needs and sharing best practice.
- Support a speedier, simpler, and more responsive customer journey, contributing to continuous improvement and high internal customer satisfaction.
- Maintain accurate customer records across all information systems, ensuring data protection compliance.
- Support customer self‑serve initiatives and identify opportunities for further self‑serve.
- Effectively manage non‑complex customer issues and consult with Surveyors or Managers when needed.
- Safeguard confidentiality in line with policy and data protection legislation.
- Support continuous improvement of processes and procedures using best practice.
- Escalate service issues as required.
- Share knowledge across services.
- The Experience You Will Bring
- Good standard of education – minimum of 5 GCSEs or equivalent experience.
- Evidence of Continuous and Professional Development (CPD).
- In‑depth understanding of the Building Control function, legislation and regulations.
- When required, holding technical or specific qualifications.
- Experience processing reports and responding to information requests.
- Customer‑focused service delivery experience and strong administrative skills.
- Attention to detail and adherence to workflow when processing enquiries.
- Ability to assess risk, identify potential fraud and handle complex enquiries with Surveyors.
- Prompt and effective management of customer interactions.
- Analytical skills to recognise and escalates enquiries appropriately.
- Accuracy, detail orientation and professionalism in all work.
- High standards of customer service.
- Strong ICT skills and rapid learning of new systems.
