About the Role

Fixed term contract / Secondment opportunity, 12 month contract. Full Time, 37 hours per week. £48,205 to £57,988 per annum. Location: Harlow. Working Style: Community-based worker. Position: Maternity cover for a year from mid‑June. Closing date: 14 June 2026. This is an opportunity for an experienced social work practitioner to gain supervisory experience.

The postholder is responsible for processing work through duty, making threshold decisions, providing helpful directions at allocation stage, and working with qualified and alternatively qualified staff who produce high‑quality casework. The role includes regular supervision and local training sessions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide effective professional supervision for Family Workers and other staff within the multidisciplinary team, incorporating research‑based approaches.
  • Undertake quality assurance to ensure high‑quality support to young people and families.
  • Work with staff and partners to manage risk in line with the Effective Support and Guidance thresholds and SET child protection procedures.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of legislation, policy changes, research findings and practice developments, and act as expert advice for the team.
  • Take responsibility for throughput of duty work, screening and allocation, providing clear briefing to workers receiving cases.
  • Undertake observational visits and quality assure completed work to high standards and within service timeframes.
  • Provide regular supervision, both reflective and case‑based.
  • Promote active engagement of young people and families in decision‑making around intervention plans.
  • Collaborate with the Team Manager to improve consistent practice and achieve high performance standards.
  • Represent Family Solutions at relevant county and local meetings to ensure effective multi‑agency working.
  • Meet annual target and objective framework set within performance management.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Recognised social work qualification (Diploma, degree, Masters in social work, CQSW, CSS or equivalent) and current registration with Social Work England.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development aligned to relevant competency frameworks and significant experience of social work.
  • Operational understanding of effective risk management, including risk of harm to children and others.
  • Commitment to quality assurance, including case audit and acting on feedback from children and families.
  • Capacity to develop staff practice to improve outcomes for children and families.
  • Ability to deliver high‑quality training and development to a multi‑agency group.
  • Demonstrable commitment to involving children and families in decision‑making and to shaping quality assurance of the service.
  • Committed to developing community resources, including working with volunteers where relevant.

Requirements

  • Mobile throughout the wider operational area, including travel within Essex and beyond; must hold a driving licence and use a car or meet mobility requirements via other means.
  • Should the role require a DBS check, the employee will register with the DBS update service and maintain the annual subscription.
