Essex County Council (ECC) is supporting Braintree Council in recruiting a temporary Finance Business Partner.

Location: Braintree

Closing Date: 30th April 2025

Role: To deliver high-quality financial advice and support to services and the corporate organisation. Responsible for providing comprehensive and innovative support to senior managers, working collaboratively across the finance function.

Role Accountabilities:

  • Providing financial and management accounting support, including revenue budgets, account closures, financial monitoring, forecasting, and planning.
  • Offering financial advice to service managers, reviewing financial procedures, processes, and systems, and advising on financial implications of decision reports.
  • Collaborating with service managers on investigations, reviews, financial projects, and external funding bids or claims.
  • Constructively challenging existing budgets and assumptions.
  • Supporting service and corporate projects, working groups, and committees as needed.
  • Fostering a culture of empowered budget holders and value-for-money services, using evidence-based reporting, benchmarking, and identifying key cost drivers.
  • Completing government and corporate financial returns and data requests accurately and timely.
  • Supporting cross-service initiatives and maintaining service-specific knowledge for policy and service development.

Experience:

  • Full CCAB or equivalent qualification, or extensive relevant experience.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • Confidence and experience advising management and members on complex financial matters.
  • Experience as a finance business partner in local government or public sector.
  • Knowledge of local government accounting, CIPFA Codes, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to interpret regulations, procedural changes, and accounting requirements.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines amidst conflicting demands and priorities.
  • Proficiency with financial systems and MS Office, especially spreadsheets and financial modeling.
  • Creative, innovative, and able to challenge prevailing views constructively.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with senior management, service managers, and budget holders.
