This is a one-year maternity cover position for an experienced social work practitioner in Essex. The role requires the postholder to supervise family workers, manage duty work, provide professional supervision, ensure quality assurance and risk management, and work closely with qualified staff and partners to support children, young people and their families.
Responsibilities
- Provide effective professional supervision for family workers and other staff within the multi‑disciplinary team.
- Conduct quality assurance work ensuring high‑quality support for young people and their families.
- Work with staff and partners to ensure effective risk management and adherence to the Effective Support and Guidance thresholds and SET child‑protection procedures.
- Maintain current knowledge of legislation, policy changes, research findings and practice developments to advise staff.
- Oversee throughput of duty work, screening and allocation, providing clear briefings to workers.
- Undertake observational visits and assure the quality of completed work within service timeframes.
- Deliver regular reflective and case‑based supervision sessions.
- Promote engagement of young people and families in decision‑making about intervention plans.
- Collaborate with the Team Manager to improve consistent practice and achieve high performance standards.
- Represent Family Solutions at relevant county and local meetings to advance multi‑agency working.
Qualifications
- Formal social worker qualification (Diploma, Degree, Masters, CQSW, CSS or equivalent) with current registration with Social Work England.
- Evidence of continuing professional development aligned to competency frameworks and Knowledge & Skills Statements.
- Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, including Data Protection.
- Demonstrated experience of social work and up‑to‑date understanding of all relevant guidance.
- Commitment to quality assurance, case audit and continuous improvement based on feedback from children and families.
- Ability to develop staff practice to improve outcomes for children and families.
- Capacity to deliver high‑quality training and development sessions to multi‑agency staff.
Requirements
- Mobile across Essex and willing to travel beyond the county where required.
- Valid driving licence and access to a vehicle; or the ability to meet mobility requirements by other means.
- DBS check and willingness to register with the DBS update service.
