About The Role

Temporary full‑time (3‑month contract). Pay: £45.00–£50.00 per hour (umbrella, inside IR35). Location: Maldon. Closing date: 22nd May 2026. The position requires two days a week presence on site. The role is supported by Essex County Council.

The Opportunity

Maldon District Council seeks a qualified and experienced Environmental Health Officer who can demonstrate knowledge within the Private Sector Housing area and deal with complaints and HMOs. Experience of dealing with Statutory Nuisance issues would be a bonus. The role will focus on complaints‑driven work and appropriate enforcement, including serving of notices as necessary.

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate complaints and requests for service in the area and function
  • Ensure that all matters of environmental significance are recorded and pursue action to secure Environmental Health compliance
  • Support, contribute and comply with quality practices as described within the Corporate Policy and as directed by departmental and team plans/management
  • Attend and advise Area Committees, if required, to present reports on any functions for which you are responsible
  • Ensure that the Council and Directorate safety policies are observed
  • Apply and actively promote the principles of the Council’s Equal Opportunities Policy in all areas of employment and service delivery
  • Apply and actively promote the principles of the Council’s Safeguarding Procedure in all areas of employment and service delivery

The Experience you will bring

  • Degree in Environmental Health or equivalent (Diploma in Environmental Health) (desirable)
  • Registered with Environmental Health Registration Board (desirable)
  • Experience securing regulatory compliance through various means
  • Statutory nuisance investigation experience
  • Planning and Licensing consultation response experience
