Location: This role provides remote and flexible working as well as working within the Council Offices, subject to business need.
This role requires a standard DBS being undertaken prior to any contract of employment being offered. This will be re-checked every three years.
Description
Maldon District Council is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Environmental Health Manager with experience of Environmental Protection. You will play a vital role in protecting and enhancing our local environment, helping to create cleaner, safer spaces that residents can truly enjoy. You will be at the forefront of ensuring compliance with key environmental legislation. You will lead a team of officers undertaking investigations, inspections, and projects aimed at protecting natural resources, reducing pollution, and enhancing sustainability. Collaborating closely with stakeholders and community partners, you will support the development and implementation of policies and initiatives that promote environmental protection and community resilience and be based in the district two days per week.
About This Role
As an Environmental Health Manager (Protection), you will:

  • Be responsible for environmental protection matters, including air quality, noise control, contaminated land, private water supplies, statutory nuisances and animal welfare.
  • Manage and develop the continuous improvement of a team of Environmental Health Officers, Technical Officers, Enforcement Officers, Animal Welfare Officer and Administration Officers.
  • Undertake investigations, provide specialist advice, and enforce legislation relating to environmental protection.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations by developing and refreshing policies, procedures and strategies.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments, agencies, stakeholders and council members to deliver effective environmental health services.
  • Lead on major projects within the team functions.
  • Prepare reports for and attend Council Committee Meetings.
