Overview: Temporary, Full Time. £35.00 - £40.00 ph umbrella. Location: Tendring. Closing Date: 3 February 2026.

The Role: Essex County Council (ECC) are delighted to be supporting Tendring District Council to recruit a Planning Officer to cover a maternity leave commencing March 2026. Please note this role is based two days a week in the office and you will be required to undertake site visits across the district.

Working in a small and supportive team environment, this role would suit a Planning Officer who has 2+ years’ experience of dealing with planning applications and who is confident to pick up an existing workload with ease. There will be a short handover period to facilitate a smooth transition.

This post involves managing a caseload of minor applications e.g. up to 5 dwellings, prior approvals, small to medium scale commercial development, householder applications and pre-application enquiries. Tendring is a great mix of urban, coastal and rural areas, and site visits are required for each application therefore your own transport is essential.

Our ideal candidate will have excellent report writing skills and must be confident and professional when dealing with Members, the public and other service users. It is anticipated that the contract will be for a minimum of 9 months.

The Experience You Will Bring:

  • Minimum 2-3 years’ experience in a Local Planning Authority Development Management team
  • Membership or eligibility for membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute
  • Available to start from March 2026
