  • Position Summary

The Family Centre provides interventions to bring about positive change within families, help adults provide positive parenting, and increase the resilience of children so they can remain in their homes where it is safe to do so.

The role involves managing a caseload of targeted intervention work, completing court‑directed parenting assessments, delivering group work sessions, and providing bespoke direct work to vulnerable children and families.

  • Accountabilities
  • Work on complex cases, seeking management support and accessing supervision as required.
  • Provide professional guidance to colleagues and support the team manager.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date case records, produce reports, attend court, and give verbal presentations.
  • Represent the Council in court proceedings.
  • Participate in quality assurance processes, including case file audits and diagnostic exercises.
  • Critically appraise own and others’ practice and challenge within identified forums.
  • Maintain current knowledge of legislation, policy changes, and practice developments relevant to interventions.
  • Drive own professional development through training and other opportunities.
  • Provide expert advice and consultation to staff on child protection and risk assessment issues.
  • Ensure child protection plans are implemented and reviewed.
  • Participate in or chair team meetings and deputise for the Team Manager as necessary.
  • Complete any other duties as required.
  • Be available for occasional evening work and very occasional weekend activities.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Recognised social work qualification (Diploma, degree, Master’s, CQSW, CSS or equivalent) with current registration with Social Work England.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development aligned to relevant competency frameworks.
  • Significant experience of social work with up‑to‑date understanding of legislation, regulation, and guidance.
  • Experience mentoring students and new staff, and serving as a subject‑matter expert.
  • Experience chairing meetings involving clients, family members, carers, and multi‑agency professionals.
  • Strong partner and community relationship building skills.
  • In‑depth understanding of value‑for‑money interventions and risk management.
  • Proven track record of clear decision‑making to mitigate intervention risks.
