Join Essex County Council as a School Crossing Patrol Officer for the School Crossing Patrol team at Cathedral Primary – Victoria Road South. This permanent, term‑time, part‑time position is community‑based, with approximately 6 hours 15 minutes of work per week during the 39‑week academic year.

Location: Chelmsford

Working Style: Community‑based worker

Pay: £13.00 per hour

Hours: 35 minutes between 08:25‑09:00 in the morning and 40 minutes between 15:00‑15:40 in the afternoon (approximate). Holiday pay element included.

About the Role: Support schools once in the morning and once in the afternoon, ensuring the safety of all pedestrians crossing the road to and from school and its surrounding locations.

Responsibilities:

  • Consider the needs of people with disabilities, especially mobility‑impaired individuals.
  • Maintain regular contact with schools whose students use the crossing.
  • Assess and report any risks or defects at the crossing site to a supervisor.
  • Prepare reports on accidents, failures to stop incidents and other incidents at the crossing.
  • Maintain and request replacements for uniform and equipment.
  • Give clear stopping signals to drivers, ensuring traffic remains stopped until the crossing is clear.
