Essex Coroner Service is looking for a highly motivated individual to join the team as a Training and Quality Assurance Specialist. As an ‘Anywhere worker’ position, the role will involve a combination of remote and office-based working. There will be an expectation for you to attend the office based at Seax House, Chelmsford at least 3 days per week in addition to ‘as and when’ there is a business need. Please note that visa sponsorship is not available for this role. Applicants must have a current, unrestricted right to work in the UK.

The Role:
Essex Coroners Service supports 4 full time Coroners in statutory duties as independent judiciary investigating the unnatural deaths across greater Essex. The service has 4,500 referrals per year and holds over 1,200 inquests a year. The role will develop and lead on, in liaison with the coroner service management team, all aspects of training and induction within the service, competently designing, coordinating, and delivering effective training, providing high-quality feedback and advice as appropriate. They will coordinate ongoing monitoring through data analysis and quality assurance to drive consistency to ensure an excellent customer experience. The role will analyse data, reports, and systems to ensure service development or operational issues are identified, escalated, and resolved. This will involve creation of performance monitoring, internal system development, and staff communication channels. This will include development of systems to ensure the service offer is continuously maximised.
About You:
- Educated to Regulated Qualification Framework (RQF) Level 3 or equivalent by experience.
- Ability to develop knowledge and skills within the workplace and accountability for personal development.
- Experience of quality monitoring in a service driven environment.
- Experience of designing and delivering training, which includes documentation of all training material and guides.
- Experience of delivering coaching sessions in ways which facilitate performance improvement through engagement, coaching and mentoring.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to be professional, calm, empathetically assertive and articulate in a frontline service.
- Thorough understanding of customer experience processes and techniques.
- Demonstrable ICT skills with knowledge and practical application of the MS Office suite of programmes.
- Demonstrable ability to present information and projects for consideration clearly, concisely, and persuasively.
- Experience of actively gathering, interpreting, and using data to develop actionable steps to improve processes and optimise results.
The complex nature of the Coroner Service and the volume of the workload requires the role to have specialised knowledge of all subject areas. Ongoing personal development is essential.
What will you be doing?
- Ensuring regulations are adhered to as set out in the Chief Coroners guidance.
- Develop and deliver training and training materials identified through data analysis, in consultation with the Senior Coroner and the coroner service management team, carrying out reviews.
- Develop and carry out a programme of quality checks on cases to ensure that all monitoring is completed in a timely basis.
- Feedback from checks to be documented and fed into a feedback schedule.
- Creation and continuous development of analysing data to support ongoing business cases, service improvement, performance monitoring and system development.
- Using specialist knowledge of the service to assist in the growth and compliance whilst contributing to a culture of embracing change and service excellence.
- Extensive knowledge and continuous development of service systems, extracting reports and data allowing for operational issues to be identified promptly.
- To develop the system offers and ensure that the service is utilising resources effectively, maintaining KPIs and ensuring an excellent customer experience.
- Developing and maintaining a range of service area documented information and user guides that all staff can access quickly via an online central information hub, which will need to be continuously updated and adapted.
- To represent the Coroners Service at events to promote the services available.
- Specific individual and shared targets and objectives are defined annually within the performance management framework.
