Both newly qualified social workers (NQSWs) and experienced social workers are invited to apply. NQSWs start at £36,124 per annum, rising to £38,487 after successful completion of the ASYE programme. Experienced social workers receive a basic salary between £38,487 and £51,834 within nine entry points.

About the Role

Children and Families is a collaborative, integrity‑driven service providing early help, family support and effective social work interventions. The assessment and intervention (A&I) team serves as the gateway for children, young people, parents/carers, and other agencies, conducting incoming assessments and short‑term intervention. The role manages a defined caseload of children from pre‑birth to 18 years, focusing on child protection, child in need, and children looked after, and aims to achieve permanency for children in care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a defined caseload and deliver assessment and short‑term intervention services.
  • Work with children, young people and families/carers to foster positive outcomes.
  • Collaborate with police, partners and other agencies for child‐protection risk assessment.
  • Transfer cases to Family Support and Protection teams or Family Solutions as required.

What You Will Need

  • Diploma or degree in social work, CQSW, CSS or equivalent and registration with Social Work England.
  • Demonstrable capability of practice in accordance with the Professional Capability Framework (PCF) and Knowledge & Skills Statement (KSS).
  • Ability to apply social work knowledge, emotional intelligence and analytical skills to challenging social and family situations.
  • Good working knowledge of information technology and case recording systems.
  • Flexibility to work occasionally evenings and weekends.
  • Mobility across Essex and beyond; a driving licence and a car or alternative transport means required.
  • Ability to work outside normal office hours to meet family needs.
