Role Overview
You will join the Council’s Development Management planning team to support the Assistant Director of Planning and manage a team of Development Management Planners, Planning Enforcement Officers, Land Charges and Planning Technical Support staff. The role involves delivering the Planning Service across Development Management, Planning Enforcement and Appeals and ensuring the smooth running and performance of the Council’s Development Management service.
Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with the Assistant Director, Executive Director and Service Management Team to develop and deliver the Council’s corporate vision and strategic objectives.
- Lead and manage the Development Management and Planning Enforcement and Appeals teams to ensure efficient service operation, in line with statutory and legislative requirements and the Council’s corporate objectives, including budgets.
- Ensure consistency of decision‑making across the Borough for all planning applications and enforcement actions, in accordance with statutory requirements, the Development Plan framework, relevant corporate policies and national guidance.
- Promote the Council’s aims and objectives, engaging with key partners, stakeholders and staff at all levels to enhance understanding of the Council’s corporate objectives.
- Complete external funding applications, bid submissions and similar activities to secure third‑party funding for projects or activities under the remit of the Assistant Director.
Key Experience & Skills
- Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute.
- Knowledge and understanding of planning legislation and regulations, including National Key Performance Indicators.
- Previous experience of managing a multi‑disciplinary team handling major planning applications.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
