This new and exciting post will be part of the Planning Enforcement team within the Planning Service. It focuses on development monitoring, checking compliance of planning conditions attached to major and complex development proposals. The successful candidate will be able to work both independently and within a small team, be highly organised, and have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
The service has seen significant increases in the number of major planning applications being managed. Each consent will have numerous planning conditions. This function is essential to monitor compliance, identify non‑compliance early, and ensure serious breaches are dealt with swiftly and not left unaddressed. The role is based within the Enforcement Team but involves close working with Development Management and Policy teams to monitor the commencement and completion of new developments as part of the Annual Monitoring Reports that must be published.
Site visits are required and the use of a private car is essential.
Essential Skills
- IT experience, including the use of MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and project management software.
- Experience of preparing written and verbal responses to correspondence of a technical nature.
- Ability to interpret plans of buildings, land and deal with enquiries of a technical nature, both written and verbal.
- Ability to read and understand documentation and focus on key issues.
- High level of organisational and analytical skills including the ability to maintain files and update and amend databases, generate reports, and analyse information and assimilate into different formats.
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to give advice in an assured manner and respond to a range of enquiries from internal and external customers.
- Excellent team worker, but able to work independently.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision, manage own case load and prioritise in the office and on site.
- Ability to travel throughout the Borough to visit sites and to access uneven terrain.
- Ability to occasionally work unsociable hours as required.
Qualifications
- Educated to A-Level and/or Level 3 apprenticeship or equivalent standard.
- Willingness to study for an undergraduate degree/apprenticeship in town planning.
