About the team
The team operates within the Tendring area and forms part of a neighbourhood approach, working closely with partners in health, housing and the voluntary sector. It undertakes a wide range of duties under the Care Act 2014, including assessment, reviews, mental capacity assessments and adult safeguarding. The team supports adults aged 18+ across all specialisms, promoting independence and maximum potential, with a focus on early intervention, prevention, recovery and community resilience. The team comprises a Team Manager, Deputy Team Manager, Senior Social Workers, Social Workers, Community Support Workers and an Occupational Therapist.
About the role
Part‑time (9 am—5:30 pm, Wednesday‑Friday; Thursdays must be in‑office). Manage your own complex caseload and support colleagues; provide specialist advice and help mitigate high levels of risk; contribute to developing practice standards and our four key principles: prevention, early intervention, enablement and safeguarding.
Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively across the Council and with statutory and voluntary agencies to deliver a joined‑up approach.
- Take part in case conferences, court attendances, meetings and statutory reviews, proactively taking the lead when a social‑care perspective is required.
- Develop expertise in specific practice areas and lead on those areas.
- Manage team Supporting Independence Discussions (SID).
- Support the development of the team with focused practice sessions.
- Remain mobile across Essex and beyond, transporting service users and belongings and able to act in emergencies; a valid driving licence and car (or other means to meet mobility requirements) are essential.
Qualifications and experience
- Qualified social worker with current Social Work England registration and at least 2 years post‑qualification, with in‑depth knowledge of complex cases and the Care Act.
- Proactive worker with a proven record of managing complex cases and supporting colleagues.
- Ability to mentor both newly qualified and experienced team members.
- Comprehensive understanding of current legislation, regulations and guidance.
- Experience chairing meetings involving clients, family, carers and multi‑agency professionals.
- Evidence of continuing professional development and capability of practice in line with current professional standards.
- In‑depth understanding of the financial implications of commissioned care packages.
- Strong decision‑making skills and ability to identify and limit potential risks.
- Practice Educator, AMHP or BIA qualified (a plus).
