First Aid Trainer Sessional role with pro‑rate salary of £18.38 per hour PAYE / £136.04 per day PAYE. Deliver training within North Essex across ACL centres and community venues. Hours will vary; some evenings and weekends may be required.

Adult Community Learning (ACL) is Essex County Council’s provider of lifelong learning opportunities. The Vocational Trainer delivers engaging, high‑quality teaching and assessment. The postholder plans, delivers, and assesses learning in line with awarding body requirements, maintaining high expectations and inclusive approaches for all learners. They use digital tools, practical demonstrations, and real workplace examples.

Accountabilities
  • Deliver high‑quality, inclusive and engaging teaching, learning and assessment within a designated vocational area to ensure learners achieve planned outcomes.
  • Develop schemes of work, lesson plans and learning materials that reflect sector practice, employer expectations and awarding body criteria, preparing learners for assessment and ensuring timely completion of qualifications and professional standards.
  • Ensure compliance with quality assurance, safeguarding and Prevent, actively promote equality of opportunity and wellbeing across all aspects of service delivery, ensuring all staff and learners feel respected, supported and able to thrive to maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment.
  • Maintain accurate records of learner attendance, progress and achievement using ACL‑approved systems to support monitoring and reporting requirements.
Experience You Will Bring
  • Educated to RQF Level 4 and holding a relevant teaching qualification; an IQA qualification desirable.
  • Occupationally competent in First Aid and holding a relevant first aid qualification.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development within the vocational area. Ideally, Qualsafe or equivalent approved.
  • Proven experience in teaching, training or assessing adults or apprentices, preferably in FE or work‑based learning.
  • Strong planning, organisational and communication skills with the ability to adapt delivery for diverse learner needs.
  • Competent in the use of e‑learning platforms, digital tools and online delivery methods.
  • Commitment to inclusive education, safeguarding and continuous improvement in teaching practice.

Mobile requirement: the role requires the postholder to be mobile throughout the operational area; therefore, a valid UK driving licence and access to a vehicle, or alternative means of meeting mobility requirements, is necessary.

As part of employment with Essex County Council, if the role requires a DBS check, you will be required to register and maintain your DBS status via the DBS update service.
