Essex County Council are delighted to be advertising the role of Caretaker on behalf of Castle Point Borough Council. This role is vital in providing an efficient caretaking service to the Council Offices, ensuring a secure and well‑maintained environment for all staff and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Security: Responsible for the opening, closing, and securing of the Council Offices, including the operation of intruder alarms.
  • Maintenance: Undertaking minor repairs, maintenance to the building and equipment, and keeping external areas clear of debris.
  • Compliance: Carrying out routine fire safety inspections and Portable Appliance Testing (PAT).
  • Logistics: Managing postal deliveries, movement of furniture, and assisting with civic hospitality and events.
  • Liaison: Acting as a point of contact for cleaning contractors and assisting with the maintenance of ceremonial items.

Hours and Conditions

The position operates on an alternating shift basis on Thursdays and Fridays:

  • Thursday: 6.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. / 2.00 p.m. to 10.00 p.m.
  • Friday: 6.00 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. / 2.00 p.m. to 9.30 p.m.

Some weekend attendance may be required for pre‑arranged events or essential works.
