Responsibilities
The role is within the Council’s Planning Policy team, which is part of the Place, Planning & Growth directorate. This is an exciting time to join the Planning Policy Team at Maldon District Council. We are about to embark on the preparation of a new Local Plan for the Maldon District under the new plan‑making system, providing a unique opportunity to help shape the future of the area alongside the backdrop of Local Government Reorganisation. You will contribute to the preparation, monitoring and review of planning policy across the district. You will also undertake research and analysis, assist in the production of key policies and the evidence base, and support consultation and public engagement activities. There are also opportunities to work collaboratively with infrastructure providers, neighbouring authorities and Essex County Council on strategic planning matters.
The team is involved in a wide range of ongoing planning policy work, including supporting Parish Councils with neighbourhood plans, managing Section 106 agreements, undertaking monitoring activities, and producing the Authority Monitoring Report (AMR). Alongside this, we are also working closely with our Development Management colleagues on a number of significant development proposals currently being brought forward by developers.
To support this ambitious programme of work, we are recruiting into two new positions – a Policy Planner and a Senior Policy Planner. These roles will allow successful candidates to further develop their planning policy knowledge, communication, project management, analysis, and report‑writing skills.
