Castle Point Borough Council is seeking an Environmental Health Technical Officer for a permanent, full-time position with a salary range of £38,220 - £41,771 per annum. The role is based in Benfleet and the closing date for applications is 29/06/2026.

About the role:

You’ll work across a broad range of Environmental Health functions, focusing on:

  • Public Health, Statutory Nuisance and Environmental Protection
  • Private Sector Housing

Your day-to-day work will be varied and hands-on, including:

  • Investigating noise, smoke, light and other nuisance complaints
  • Dealing with vermin, accumulations and other public health issues
  • Inspecting private rented properties and HMOs and dealing with complaints
  • Supporting residents and businesses to resolve issues

You’ll also have opportunities to gain experience in other areas such as food safety, health and safety, animal welfare and special treatment licensing/registrations.

  • Current full driving licence and access to a vehicle as there is a requirement to travel within the area
Desirable (but not essential):
  • Experience in Environmental Health or a related field
  • Knowledge of housing, nuisance or enforcement work
