Overview

Permanent, Full Time. Location: Colchester. Working Style: Community-based worker. Closing Date: 15th June 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Expert Guidance: foster a supportive environment, model best practice, offer specialist advice, and mentor both newly qualified and experienced colleagues.
  • Assess and Support: manage a diverse and complex caseload, undertake comprehensive assessments, and create person-centred care plans.
  • Ensure Compliance: support people to live full and fulfilling lives within the Care Act framework, relevant legislation, and organisational standards.
  • Manage Caseloads: provide expert social work practice in complex situations, upholding high professional standards.
  • Collaborate: build strong relationships across the Council and with partners to shape high-quality solutions that promote independence.
  • Represent Adult Social Care: chair multi-agency meetings and proactively ensure a social care perspective is represented.

About You / Qualifications

  • Qualified social worker with current Social Work England registration and at least 2 years post-qualification experience in complex cases and the Care Act.
  • AMHP, BIA, or PE qualified.
  • Proactive and passionate with a proven record in complex case work and supporting other staff; capable of development within the management team.
  • Ability to mentor newly qualified and experienced team members; subject matter expert in current legislation, regulations and guidance.
  • Experience chairing meetings involving clients, families, carers and multi-agency professionals; able to develop strong relationships with partner agencies and the local community.
  • Continuing professional development evidenced and capability of practice in line with current professional standards.
  • Understanding of the financial implications of commissioned care packages; ability to make clear decisions and identify potential risks.
  • Willingness to travel around Essex with a driving licence and car or mobility alternatives as required.

Note: This role involves travel and requires eligibility to work in the UK.
