School Crossing Patrol Officer – Bishops' CE and RC Primary School
Permanent, Term Time position. £13.46 per hour. Location: Chelmsford. Working style: Operational field‑based worker.
About the role
Join Essex County Council’s School Crossing Patrol Team as a School Crossing Patrol Officer at Bishops' CE and RC Primary School, Beardsley Drive, Chelmsford. Support schools once in the morning and once in the afternoon, ensuring the safety of all pedestrians crossing the road to and from school and surrounding locations. This position is for 7.5 hours per week approximately, with a holiday pay element included. Availability is required during the 39 weeks of the academic year, for 45 minutes between 08:00–09:00 in the morning and 45 minutes between 14:45–15:45 in the afternoon, depending on site requirements. Uniform, equipment, and training will be provided.
Responsibilities
- Have regard for the needs of people with disabilities, especially mobility-impaired people wishing to use the crossing point.
- Maintain regular contact with the schools attended by children using the crossing.
- Regularly assess the risks associated with operating at the crossing site to identify problems, and report problems and defects to the supervisor.
- Assist in the preparation of reports on accidents, failure-to-stop incidents, and other incidents occurring at the crossing site.
- Ensure that all uniform and equipment provided is maintained in good condition and request replacements when needed.
- Give clear signals to drivers when stopping traffic, ensuring that traffic remains at rest until the road at the crossing point is clear of pedestrians.
