The Park Manager is responsible for all operational management duties for Danbury Country Park, Cudmore Grove Country Park and Marsh Farm Country Park. The role involves developing robust business plans and Park Management Plans, identifying new revenue opportunities, using data to inform decisions, and translating plans into day‑to‑day operations.
Key responsibilities include ensuring the parks are safe, clean and compliant with legislation, byelaws and health and safety requirements, while considering the impact of climate change and conservation values. You will design and implement proactive maintenance schedules, manage equipment and assets, and maintain good maintenance practices. The position requires day‑to‑day operational oversight, adherence to budgetary guidelines, financial control, grant application contributions, and implementation of consistent processes and controls.
You will lead, manage and motivate a team of Rangers and site staff, handling recruitment, induction, training, performance evaluation, conduct and disciplinary matters. Leadership duties include driving cultural change, promoting desired behaviours, and ensuring clarity on vision and objectives. Collaboration with third‑party partners, stakeholders, community groups, contractors and neighbouring councils is essential.
Note: The role requires mobile coverage of all three sites and a valid driving licence or alternative mobility provision.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
We seek an excellent leader with strong communication and people‑management skills, capable of engaging with the public. Experience in ecological/habitat management, conservation, and the country park ethos is essential. A degree in land management, countryside management or an equivalent qualification is preferred, along with continued professional development. The ideal candidate will demonstrate attention to detail, initiative, problem‑solving ability, and experience generating income within a country park setting. Enthusiasm, energy, motivation and a commitment to teamwork and development are crucial.
