Cycle Instructor

Temporary, Part Time

Pay: £14.15 per hour for qualified instructors; £13.30 per hour for unqualified instructors.

Location: Countywide, Essex (excluding Southend and Thurrock).

Working style: Anywhere worker.

The Role

Deliver Bikeability training courses to children across Essex, and occasionally work with adults.

Plan and organise training sessions, adhere to road safety laws, maintain a safe learning environment, and keep accurate administrative records.

Accountabilities

  • Deliver training in line with National Standards and the Bikeability scheme.
  • Ensure on‑road and off‑road training meets Health & Safety requirements.
  • Work with children and adults in formal training settings.
  • Liaise with managers and other instructors to keep sessions running on schedule.
  • Maintain accurate administrative records, including risk assessments, attendance registers, and client information.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, reliability and good timekeeping.
  • Undertake any other duties appropriate to the role.
  • Engage in training and use of new technology introduced by the County Council and The Bikeability Trust.

  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Suitably fit to undertake training duties and supervise children.
  • First Aid qualification (ideal).
  • Ownership or use of a smart phone.

Qualifications and Training

Receive training to the National Standard 1st 4 Sport Level 2 award in instructing cycle training (L2AICT) through a three‑day course delivered by The Bikeability Trust.

Must complete online modules before training days.

Must achieve full accreditation in the 1st 4 Sport Level 2 Award in Instructing Cycle Training within 6 months of starting employment (funded by ECC).

Work Pattern and Mobility

Work pattern: minimum of two consecutive weekdays during the school term, plus weekends and evenings as required.

Must be mobile throughout Essex and able to travel by bike or public transport, working in all weather conditions.
