Join Essex County Council’s School Crossing Patrol Team as a School Crossing Patrol Officer at Great Bradfords Infant and Junior School, Marlborough Road, Braintree CM7 9LW. Support schools ensuring the safety of all pedestrians crossing the road to and from school and its surrounding locations.

This position is for 3.45 hours per week approximately, with a holiday pay element included. Working hours: PM only – 14:50 to 15:35 Monday to Friday during school term time, 39 weeks of the academic year. Uniform, equipment, and training will be provided. Initially offered on a six‑month fixed‑term contract, with the potential to become a permanent position.

Responsibilities:
  • To have regard for the needs of people with disabilities, especially mobility‑impaired people wishing to use the crossing point.
  • Maintain regular contact with the schools attended by children using the crossing.
  • Regularly assess the risks associated with operating at the crossing site in order to identify any problems.
  • Report problems and defects to supervisor.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports on accidents and failure to stop incidents and other incidents occurring at the crossing site.
  • Ensure that all uniform and equipment provided is maintained in good condition and replacements requested when needed.
  • Give clear signals to drivers when stopping traffic and ensuring that the traffic remains at rest until the road at the crossing point is clear of pedestrians.
