This is a temporary role covering sickness and annual leave within a residential short break service. The role requires working shifts throughout a 24‑hour period, including days, evenings and nights, weekends and bank holidays. Typical shift patterns are: day (07:00‑15:00), late (15:00‑22:00) and night (22:00‑07:00).
Accountabilities:
- Provide support to individuals to enable optimum independence and self‑control in line with their care plan.
- Support individuals/groups to access social and leisure activities, such as college classes, community activities and other leisure options.
- Monitor emotional and general wellbeing daily and protect adults from abuse, reporting concerns to senior managers.
- Support adults to make choices respecting dignity, privacy and choice in accordance with the care plan.
- Ensure respectful, courteous approaches with adults, families, visitors and colleagues both within the home and in the community.
Experience and Qualifications:
- Minimum education: RQF Level 2 (GCSE) or equivalent by experience.
- Experience in a social care setting and working as part of a team.
- Good communication skills and ability to engage with diverse groups of adults.
- Some experience working with adults with disabilities or a desire to work in this field.
- Aware of a person‑centered approach and respect for dignity and privacy.
- Understanding of relevant legislation: Vulnerable Adults, Mental Capacity and other relevant policy and procedure.
- Willingness to undertake training in Manual Handling, First Aid Awareness, Food Hygiene, Risk and Conflict Management, Data Protection and Health & Safety if not already completed.

- Travel within Essex is required.
- A valid driving licence and access to a car or other reliable transport is essential.
Background Checks:
Applicants may be required to register with the DBS update service to keep DBS certificates current for the duration of the role.
