Basildon Borough Council is delighted to be supporting the recruitment of a Regeneration & Economic Growth Senior Officer on an initial 5-6-month temporary basis. Please note that this post will be based in the office 2-3 days per week.

Main Purpose: We are looking to appoint a Regeneration & Economic Growth Senior Officer to support Basildon Borough Council in its commitment to achieving sustainable regeneration and economic development in the Borough. The post-holder will be contributing to the inclusive regeneration and economic growth of the Borough by managing projects and working with partners with a key focus on inward investment and employment and skills. These projects might include events, business support initiatives or skills and employability programmes. The post-holder will be expected to work closely with local partners, community groups, residents, businesses, schools and skills providers to ensure that opportunities are cascaded to all parts of our local community.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Support the development and delivery of small to medium sized projects and outreach initiatives using effective project management skills and knowledge and executing these on time and within budget.
  • Support the Principal Officer in developing an inward investment strategy by working with them to carry out research into the economic health of the borough and explore connections between regeneration, economic growth and resident prosperity and how to optimise these.
  • Support the Principal Officer in exploring areas for improvement within the Employment and Skills service and work with the Principal Officer, Careers Officers, Development Management and Planning Obligations teams on these matters to help improve the service through growth opportunities.
  • Help deliver key programmes such as the Construction Academy and Skills Show, liaising with key partners e.g. sponsors, employers, schools and training facilities as required.
  • Organise events such as job fairs, liaising with partners as required and working with the Communications department on the preparation of relevant publicity and communication materials.
  • Monitor the Business Assist inbox and work with the Principal Officer to identify sectors and local companies vulnerable to closure or relocation and actions to address issues.
  • Help deliver research into a variety of topics to inform processes and projects relevant to the service area and support in the preparation of documents, briefs and presentations.
  • Research the market to identify opportunities for local businesses and community groups and potential new partners or funding.
  • Research regeneration and economic growth precedent projects and seek out creative ideas and actions that could be applied to the Borough.
  • Maintain awareness of national and international trends and policies affecting Basildon Borough and South Essex, within the context of the service area.

Key skills and experience required:

  • Relevant experience working within a Local Planning Authority, private sector consultancy, government agency or charitable body.
  • Experience of project management, including working with a varied team, monitoring budgets and meeting deadlines.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills coupled with the ability to write reports and present information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Education to degree level or equivalent in a related discipline.
