We are seeking an experienced Sliding Head CNC Machine Setter/Operator to join our production team. This role focuses on the setup and operation of sliding head lathes (e.g., Citizen, Star, Hanwha, Tornos) to produce precision components in a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate sliding head CNC lathes (Citizen, Star, Hanwha, Tornos) to meet production targets.
- Load raw materials, monitor barfeeders, and manage tool offsets and cutting conditions.
- Edit and adjust CNC programs to ensure compliance with specifications and tolerances.
- Perform in‑process and final inspections using precision measuring equipment.
- Accurately document inspection results and production data for traceability.
- Conduct checks on unmanned overnight runs and isolate non‑conforming parts.
- Maintain proper fluid levels, replace cutting tools, and ensure machine readiness.
- Operate other machinery within the department as required.
- Follow health and safety guidelines and maintain a clean, organized work area.
Skills and Experience
- Proven experience operating sliding head CNC machines such as Citizen, Star, Hanwha, or Tornos.
- Familiar with barfeeder setup, cutting tools, and sliding head machine operations.
- GCSEs in Maths and English.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and CNC code.
- Skilled in the use of micrometers, vernier calipers, height gauges, and optical projectors.
- Understanding of machining processes and material characteristics.
- Experience in a production environment with quality and efficiency targets.
- Good communication, teamworking skills, and reliability.
- Basic computer proficiency for documentation and control systems.
- Experience with Hurco machines or manual machining.
- Background in part assembly or secondary operations.
- Recognised engineering or technical qualifications.
