Police Staff Investigator needed in Penrith Paying £17.42 per hr ref 373225 Full time hours on a temporary basis.
Key Responsibilities
- Investigations & Evidence Gathering: Carry out investigative actions as directed, identifying, securing and preserving evidence in line with best practice. Take and record evidential accounts from victims, witnesses and professionals, including the preparation of written statements and, where trained, conducting ABE‑compliant interviews. Conduct suspect interviews under caution, applying relevant law, codes of practice and national interviewing guidelines. Undertake house‑to‑house enquiries, TIE enquiries, searches, and related investigative tasks.
- Case Management: Manage, document and maintain evidential continuity of exhibits, including acting as the exhibits officer when required. Review and handle third‑party material in accordance with CPIA 1996 and the Attorney General’s disclosure guidelines. Conduct intelligence research (subject to system access and training). Prepare case files and reports for submission to the Crown Prosecution Service, supporting case progression pre and post charge.
- Victim, Witness & Suspect Care: Ensure the welfare needs of victims, witnesses and individuals under investigation are fully considered at all stages. Liaise with and prepare written correspondence for victims, witnesses, suspects, partner agencies and other relevant bodies. Support vulnerable witnesses and apply relevant procedures to safeguard their wellbeing. Attend court or related hearings as a witness when required.
- Professional Standards: Conduct all investigations to the highest ethical standards, with accuracy, fairness and the Code of Ethics underpinning all decision‑making and actions. Undertake any other duties appropriate to the grade as required.
